Husband leaves after wife finds out?

My friends husband left her after she found out that he abused one her children and she confronted him about.Now no one can find him,not even the police.What can she do to find him to make sure he gets the help he needs so that maybe one day he can be a decent father to his children?From what I make of the situation he has never hit her before and this is the first he has ever abused one of their children.She said that he told her that he just snapped because she wasn't home,the other children were misbehaving, the baby was crying and he freaked out.She is angry and wants him to be found jail time or not but also wants him to get counseling he needs and doesn't want him to be refused his children permanently over it.What do you do when not even the police can find him?
