Is hunting with a knife illegal in ohio and surrounding states, and if so, why?

I heard from someone (more than one) that hunting with a knife is illegal, and i was wondering, why? i would use a bowie knife to hunt if i had the chance, but because of hearing that it was illegal i have resisted to buy the knives. if someone could explain, it would help.
