Why does my cat meow and come to me when I make a "ssshhhhh" noise?

One time I was "shushing" someone and my mad started doing this crackling meow, like when he gets excited about something. So I did it again, and so did he. And again and again. Now I do it all the time just to get him to come to me. He will come from across the apartment if I "SSSSHHHH" loud enough and lay with me. He will meow every single time I "SSSHHH" until he is in my lap. I think its so cute and love that ive learned this way to get him to come to me, but just want to make sure I'm not scaring im or something? lol... Anyone else ever experience this or know why he likes/dislikes this so much?
