Why do people consider the Confederate Flag as a racist symbol?

Because it is the flag of the defeated country who fought the keep slavery intact... you people are always saying leave the past in the past , and if you truly believe that then you should put that flag away.. but I have a suspicion that leaving the past in the past only applies when others start to talk about the wrong that was committed against them by your people
