What is the real reason for why he couldn't get it up, commitment fear or wat?

hooked up with a long time friend from high school, always had a thing for him. when it came down to having however, i was a little surprised by that, that he wanted to, in the end it didnt happen b/c he couldnt get it up. he said it had nothign to do with me and it was all in his head, but he started acting distant and really weird with me after. i had a face to face talk with him about it, and i suggested we werent on the same page. at that point he started talking and saying yeah u were hugging me too much and were getin too emotionally attached from my perspective. he had acted similarly, to be honest, and it was just that we were so comfy with each other didnt think it was a big problem to hug or show affection. anyway. he said that he got the wrong vibe from me, and thats why he was ignoring me and why it didnt happen with him ually. was he lying to me? or is there some truth in this...do i have a issue, b/c why was i surprised we were going to do it. we had done other ...related things before prior to that attempt. he was hard during , and now when i try to talk to him about his behavior he said that im tryin to be more than a friend by being a problemsolver and that i can keep trying but i shouldnt expect his full cooperation. he is not impotent btw. i kno he's had successfully....and also i noticed that later on that if i have a nonserious convo with him he's all for it, and we can get allong just fine...he gets defensive as soon as the convo gets a lil serious and i start tryin to figure out wats wrong wit him.
